Preparing for surgery

In the ten days leading up to surgery, there are certain things you should do to prepare, such as a final check-up in your surgeon’s office and scheduling two-week and six-week post-operation visits.

Pre-operative classes are for those who have already scheduled their joint replacement surgery or spine surgery at Edward or Elmhurst hospitals and have the surgery date set.

Patient guides

During the pre-operative class, you will receive a patient guidebook for your specific orthopedic surgery. It will describe what to expect before, during and after surgery. Links to the electronic copies below are meant to be used as a back-up. You should always attend your pre-op class.

The guidebooks below are password protected. Once your surgery is scheduled, you will receive a password from your doctor's office so you can access the guidebook for your surgery. Passwords also may be obtained during your pre-op class.
