Addiction Awareness and Recovery 5K Run/Walk
Saturday, September 19, 2015 -- DuPage County Forest Preserve, Wheaton
The second annual Addiction Awareness and Recovery 5K Run Walk will take place on Saturday, September 19 at DuPage County Forest Preserve (3 S 580 Naperville Rd., Wheaton). Packet pick-up and same day registration starts at 8:00 am. The Run/Walk start time is 10:00 am followed by and celebration and awards ceremony at 11:30 am. A kids fun run will take place after the main event at approximately 11:15 am. The course is a trail style course through woodlands, meadows and fields. Please come out to raise awareness for addiction and support individuals in recovery. Competitive/novice runners and walkers welcome. Early bird registration is $30 (before 8/31- $40 after 9/1) and includes a t-shirt. Kids fun run is $20. Register now.
Mill Street Music Fest
Sunday, September 20, 2015 -- Naperville
The Mill Street Music Fest will take place on Sunday, September 20 at Linden Oaks Naperville Outpatient Center (1335 N. Mill Street, Naperville) from 1:00-6:00 pm. Admission is free and open to the public. The event will feature musical acts including The Stu Show, an interactive children’s show, School of Rock Band, and our headliner: Mike and Joe. Family activities include: face painting, moon jump, food and refreshments, and healthy mind activities. Come out for a good family time, live music, entertainment, and to support mental health awareness. Learn more.
Linden Oaks hosts public programs throughout the year to raise awareness of mental health issues and provide support to the community.
Music and the Mind
The Music and the Mind event features a lecture-recital by Juilliard-trained concert pianist and Harvard-educated psychiatrist Dr. Richard Kogan. His performance explores the impact of psychological factors and psychiatric illness on the creative output of the great composers. At last year’s event, Kogan profiled American composer George Gershwin (1898-1937). The program included performances of Gershwin masterpieces such as Rhapsody in Blue and Porgy and Bess.
Brandon Marshall Mental Health Awareness Ride
The 2nd Annual Brandon Marshall Mental Health Awareness Ride was held on Saturday, May 16, 2015. The 50-mile ride for bikers and their passengers began at the Linden Oaks Outpatient Center, 1335 N. Mill St. in Naperville, and ended at the Starved Rock Harley-Davidson dealership in Ottawa.
The Ride was sponsored by Project 375 (formerly the Brandon Marshall Foundation), Starved Rock Harley-Davidson and Linden Oaks Behavioral Health. Proceeds from the Ride go to Project 375, which is devoted to raising awareness of mental health issues and connecting those who need treatment to resources and care.
Annual ANAD Candlelight Vigil presented by Linden Oaks
Each year, Linden Oaks Behavioral Health and the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders host an annual Candlelight Vigil for those affected by eating disorders. Last year’s event was held on Monday, May 18, 2015, in the Healing Garden of Linden Oaks Behavioral Health, on the campus of Edward Hospital, 801 S. Washington St., Naperville.
Nearly 300 people attended the event, which is held to help motivate and encourage recovery, provide support for families, commemorate those who have lost their lives, and recognize those who have recovered and survived.
