Planetree Distinction for patient-centered care
Elmhurst Hospital is in very exclusive company as one of seven hospitals in the world to achieve the prestigious Planetree Distinction, which recognizes the hospital’s achievement and innovation in the delivery of patient-centered care.
Planetree has a 35-year history of partnering with providers across the continuum of care to transform organizational cultures and deliver healthcare that puts the needs of individuals first.
Before a healthcare organization can achieve Planetree Distinction, it must meet a rigorous set of criteria that patients, family members and healthcare professionals have indicated are elements that matter the most when it comes to their healthcare experience.
“Receiving Planetree Distinction takes more than just having a state-of-the-art facility,” says Mary Lou Mastro, President and CEO of Elmhurst Hospital. “Our employees, physicians and volunteers have adopted and hold most valuable the Planetree philosophy of patient-centered care.”
“It was our initial goal as an organization to be granted Planetree Designation, which we achieved in September 2012. But achieving Planetree Distinction — the highest level — was our ultimate vision, to be acknowledged as world leaders in patient centered care through our leadership and innovation. I am proud to say we have achieved a vision!” says Joanne Muzzey, Director of Patient Advocacy and Planetree at Elmhurst Hospital.
