Give Dry a Try: April is Alcohol Awareness Month

The Importance of Awareness

Alcohol use remains a significant public health concern. With statistics showing that 95,000 Americans die each year from complications related to alcohol use—and with reports that 60% of people increased their consumption during COVID-19 lockdowns—the need for awareness and education is greater than ever. Alcohol Awareness Month, organized by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, has been dedicated to increasing public understanding of alcohol-related issues since 1987.

Break the Stigma, Recognize the Risks

Stigma and denial often prevent those struggling with alcohol use from seeking the help they need. This month, we urge you to join the conversation, reduce stigma, and help your loved ones realize when it’s time to ask for support.

Choose Your Challenge and Get Involved

Endeavor Health Behavioral Health invites you to take part in two unique challenges this April:

  • Going Dry in April: Commit to an alcohol-free month. Even a month away from drinking can lead to measurable health benefits, including fewer calories consumed and a reduced burden on your liver. Replace your regular routine with a healthy habit—such as taking a walk—and at the end of the month, reflect on the positive changes you’ve experienced.
  • Alcohol-Free Weekend: If a full month seems daunting, try a 72‑hour alcohol-free weekend. Use this time to evaluate the impact of alcohol in your life, and consider scheduling longer periods of abstinence in the future.
