Philosophy Of Care

As an oncologist, I see patients who are often facing the most serious health issue of their lives. It is therefore my responsibility to offer them the best medical expertise possible – often with the involvement of many other specialists – but to do so with compassion and empathy. It is important to establish a complete diagnosis, develop an up-to-date and comprehensive plan of care, and then to deliver that care, not only with the best possible professional competence, but with a strong human touch. Responsiveness to a patient’s needs is critical. Time spent waiting for tests or the development of a treatment plan are difficult for patients and families. While some waiting is inevitable, it is incumbent on us to minimize this by continuing to keep our patients informed as we develop a multidisciplinary plan of care.
