The Driven Idea Lab™

Overview of the Driven Idea Lab™

The Driven Idea Lab™ is an idea competition designed to provide staff, physicians and volunteers of Edward-Elmhurst Health a platform to develop innovative approaches that make healthcare more safe, seamless and personal.

The Driven Idea Lab™ offers those on the front lines of healthcare an opportunity to share their innovative healthcare solutions with mentors and leaders. The program will help participants fully develop and implement ideas for process improvements or create new healthcare products.

Edward-Elmhurst Health and Innovation

Edward-Elmhurst Health has a strong history of innovation.

  • Edward Hospital was the first in Illinois to offer all private rooms.
  • Elmhurst Hospital was one of the first in the country to be built from the ground up using the Planetree principles of patient-centered care.
  • Edward was the first hospital to bring the Watchman™ device — a technology that provides an alternative to long-term use of blood thinners — to the Chicago area.
  • Elmhurst Hospital was the first hospital in Illinois to use Topera — a 3D heart-mapping system that pinpoints the exact source of electrical abnormalities that cause AFib.
  • The health system was one of the first hospitals in the area to offer online scheduling for healthcare appointments — like physician visits and mammograms.

The Driven Idea Lab™ provides an avenue for employees, volunteers and physicians to share their innovative ideas and continue this strong tradition.

Innovation meets Transformation PX™

Recently, the health system launched the system-wide initiative Transformation PX™ — an initiative that challenges staff to transform the healthcare experience by creating a safe, seamless, and personal healthcare experience for patients, families and physicians. The Driven Idea Lab™ offers staff and physicians the opportunity to improve the healthcare experience through their own innovations.
