The best doctor’s visit you’ve ever had

Dr. Phillip Cozzi is famous for spending time with his patients. That’s because the pulmonary specialist knows his time has a direct correlation to his patients’ well-being. It ties into his philosophy of care: Dr. Cozzi believes every patient should leave his office feeling like that was the best doctor’s visit they’ve ever had.

It’s an incredibly high bar to set, but he believes focusing on each patient interaction, and maximizing personal connection during those precious moments, leads to a better experience for the patient and ultimately, better medical outcomes.

When caring for his patients, Dr. Cozzi believes in taking the time to truly help them feel heard. To do everything in his power to help them understand their present condition and where he wants to get them in the future. He focuses on providing the best medical opportunities he possibly can to each individual patient. He wants to ensure that every patient not only receives care but feels cared for.

And for those who wonder whether Dr. Cozzi’s high degree of dedication to his patients means he doesn’t have a life — as he puts it: He has a great life. He gets to work at an amazing hospital where he helps people get healthy and live healthy. And, he still finds the time to pursue many passions, which reveal even more about what makes him a great doctor and an amazing part of the Edward-Elmhurst Health family.

In addition to raising a family with his wife — all four of their children have gone on to join the medical profession — and volunteering in his community, Doctor Cozzi has run in numerous marathons and is presently earning an MFA in Poetry from the Art Institute of Chicago.

Everywhere else, it’s healthcare. For Dr. Cozzi, it’s personal.

At Edward-Elmhurst Health, you’ll find individuals across our entire system for whom compassion is a calling, and healthcare is a 24/7 commitment. Just as each patient comes to us with a unique story to tell, each one of our doctors, nurses and staff members have personal stories and powerful motivations for becoming part of the Edward-Elmhurst Health family. Here, it's personal.
