We’re wired for the future

October 14, 2019 | by Mary Lou Mastro

How often do you reach for your smartphone?

Not to play Candy Crush or scroll through Twitter, but to get stuff done? Things like paying bills, making appointments, registering yourself or your child for classes.

Technology may be a double-edged sword, but that tiny handheld computer sure can make life easier.

We work hard to integrate helpful technology to make your healthcare experience better — safe, seamless and personal.

From MyChart® to online scheduling and bill pay to real-time wait times for our Emergency Departments, Immediate Care Centers and Walk-In Clinics. We’re trying to cover all the bases.

Our work was recently recognized by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), which has named us to its 2019 Healthcare’s Most Wired Awards and Recognition List.

It’s not the first time we’ve made the Most Wired list. Edward-Elmhurst Health was on the Most Wired list in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Elmhurst Hospital made the list in 2013 and 2014, and Edward Hospital was named in 2014.

We have more than 300 IT employees working to ensure our applications, hardware, security, service delivery, informatics and data analytics make a difference for our patients every day.

Our team strives to support and promote the use of health information technology to advance quality healthcare delivery, increase patient safety, decrease medical errors and strengthen the interaction between patients and healthcare providers.

All that work makes it possible for you to pick up your phone, schedule a doctor appointment and pay your medical bills while sitting on your living room couch with your feet up. No phone calls, no waiting in line.

Register for a class. Estimate what a medical procedure might cost you. Gauge your risk for a disease. You can do all that and more through our website.

Did you know that, through MyChart, you can communicate with your doctor, manage your appointments, get test results, request prescription renewals, even schedule an E-Visit?

The icing on the cake is being honored for our efforts. Edward-Elmhurst Health will be recognized at the 2019 CHIME Fall Chief Information Officer Forum and will have our name published in the November issue of Most Wired, Modern Healthcare Special Edition.

How are you making our technology work for you?
