10 inspiring quotes for the new year

December 28, 2017 | by Edward-Elmhurst Health

The new year always marks the beginning of a fresh start. It is the perfect opportunity for you to set new goals for yourself and start the year with a new attitude.

When you are dealing with cancer, one of the hardest parts of coping is managing your emotions. It can be challenging to remain positive — especially at this time of year when the days are shorter and you’re stuck inside.

On those days when you’re feeling down, positive affirmations and inspiring quotes can help. Pick one that resonates with you and hang it up around your house. Here are some to kick start your new year:

  1. “You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live” – Stuart Scott
  2. “You have been assigned this mountain to show others it can be moved.” – Unknown
  3. “Courage does not always roar. Sometimes it’s the quiet voice at the end of the day saying ‘I will try again tomorrow.’” – Mary Anne Radmacher
  4. “When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this: You haven’t.” – Thomas Edison
  5. “Never be ashamed of a scar. It simply means you were stronger than whatever tried to hurt you.” – Unknown
  6. “I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it. “ – Maya Angelou
  7. “It is during our darkest moments that we must focus and see the light.” – Aristotle
  8. “Keep your face to the sunshine and you can never see the shadow,” – Helen Keller
  9. “Forget all the reasons it won’t work and believe the one reason it will.” – Anonymous
  10. “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and ensure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” – Christopher Reeve

As the clock strikes midnight, continue to set your goals and celebrate your milestones. How you choose your milestones and how you choose to celebrate is unique to you because everyone’s cancer journey is different. But each milestone is a reminder of how hard you’ve worked and what you’ve overcome.

We hope the ringing in of the new year brings hope, happiness and joy to your heart.
