Elmhurst Hospital among top 10 percent of U.S. hospitals for outstanding patient experience, according to Healthgrades

Elmhurst Hospital has achieved the Healthgrades 2021 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™. This distinction places Elmhurst Hospital among the top 10 percent of hospitals nationwide for patient experience, according to Healthgrades, the leading marketplace that connects patients and providers.

For this annual analysis, Healthgrades evaluated 3,297 hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), covering admissions from January 2019 to December 2019. Of those hospitals evaluated, 417 hospitals outperformed their peers – based on their patients’ responses – to achieve this award.

Healthgrades evaluates performance by applying a scoring methodology to ten patient experience measures, using data collected from a 29-question survey of the hospital’s own patients. The survey questions focus on patients’ perspectives of their care in the hospital. Question topics range from cleanliness and noise levels in patient rooms to medication explanations, and hospital staff responsiveness to patients’ needs. The measures also include whether a patient would recommend the hospital to friends or family and their overall rating of the hospital.

The Healthgrades award is the latest in a series of honors and recognition for Elmhurst Hospital’s safety, quality and patient care:

  • Elmhurst Hospital earned an A in The Leapfrog Group’s Spring 2021 Hospital Safety Grades. Elmhurst Hospital is one of only 27 hospitals in the U.S. to achieve straight A’s since the Hospital Safety Grades began in 2012.
  • For the second year in a row (2020, 2021), Fortune/IBM Watson Health named Elmhurst Hospital to its list of 100 Top Hospitals in the U.S. Elmhurst Hospital was ranked No. 1 in the Large Community Hospitals category.
  • Elmhurst Hospital received five stars in the recently updated Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings.
  • Elmhurst Hospital achieved redesignation as a Magnet hospital for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center in 2020. Its original designation was in 2015.
