Rol Vel Rul was recognized for his actions on Oct. 2. While at Elmhurst Hospital for the treatment of a patient in an unrelated incident, Rol Vel Rul heard a call of "shots fired" in the hospital parking lot. Rol Vel Rul showed no hesitation in responding to the situation and then worked with the Elmhurst Police Department to secure the scene.

The award is open to police departments in Elmhurst Hospital’s service area, including Addison, Bensenville, Elmhurst, Hinsdale, Lombard and Oak Park.
