The Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation has awarded two $5,000 Thomas O. Myers, Jr. and Shirley L. Myers Endowed Scholarships to Amy Choi of Elmhurst and Katherine Dixon of Lombard. The scholarships are awarded every year to children of Elmhurst Hospital employees who are pursuing careers in healthcare.
Choi and Dixon were each presented their $5,000 checks at the Myers Scholarship Award Luncheon held August 8 at Elmhurst Hospital. A scholarship committee chooses the winners each year based on academic achievement, evidence of leadership and community service, and a written essay describing their decision to pursue a career in healthcare.
Choi, a 2017 graduate of York High School in Elmhurst, is entering her sophomore year at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, where she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering with an emphasis on cellular and molecular bioengineering. Her mother, Eunice Choi, is a clinical lab scientist at Elmhurst Hospital.
Dixon, a 2015 graduate of Glenbard South High School in Glen Ellyn, was also a recipient of a Myers Scholarship in 2015. She is entering her senior year at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) in Atlanta where she is majoring in biology with plans to become a physician assistant. Her mother, Elizabeth Dixon, is a Business Partner in the Human Resources Dept. at Elmhurst Hospital.
The Myers Endowed Scholarships were first awarded in 2004 in appreciation for the high quality and compassionate care provided by the staff of Elmhurst Hospital to those living and working in the communities it serves. The scholarships are presented each year to two students who are the son or daughter of an Elmhurst Hospital employee and pursuing a degree in healthcare.
