Elmhurst Hospital’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) has awarded its “Run of the Month” for February 2017 to the Elmhurst Fire Department.

Paramedics Samantha Georges and Christopher Placzek, and firefighters Eric Davidson, Scott Wardzala and Lt. Steve Wroble were recognized for their care of a 58-year-old man who had a heart attack while playing hockey at the Elmhurst YMCA. In addition, Lt. Jeff Hayes, who was playing hockey with the patient, called 911 and assisted in the initial care before paramedics arrived.

The patient was taken to the Elmhurst Hospital Emergency Department and treated for a blocked coronary artery.

In the “Run of the Month” program, Elmhurst Hospital’s EMS Team reviews ambulance runs by pre-hospital providers and selects one to be recognized based on the following criteria:

  • Clear and thorough documentation
  • Superior clinical assessment skills that resulted in accurate recognition of a clinical situation
  • Behavior exceeding the call of duty in the field
  • Superior partnership and teamwork with Elmhurst Hospital
