Linden Oaks expands behavioral health, addiction residential services at Northwest Community Healthcare, Arlington Heights

March 29, 2016

Linden Oaks Behavioral Health recently expanded behavioral health treatment options for residents in the Arlington Heights area by adding several hospital-based services at Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH). This spring, we added older adult/geriatric inpatient programming, adult outpatient programming and adult addiction residential services in an effort to meet a growing need for services in the northwest suburbs.

“Our new services expand access to behavioral health services in this area including access to the most appropriate setting and level of care for those experiencing a mental health crisis” says Maureen Kunz, Director of Behavioral Health in Arlington Heights.

Expanded services include:

  • Generations Inpatient Program (50+)
To meet the needs of adults 50 and older, we opened the Generations Program, a new inpatient behavioral health service that meets the needs of older adults who are suffering from depression, anxiety, and/or other mental health issues.

This 20-bed unit offers a multi-faceted treatment approach that addresses the biological, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of recovery.

Programming includes specialized therapies, individual psychotherapy, group therapy, and opportunities to discuss issues facing older adults, such as loneliness and aging.
  • Adult Residential Addictions Center
The Adult Residential Addictions Center is a 30-bed specialized residential program to help people who are struggling with addictions to alcohol or drugs.

The program is staffed by physicians who specialize in the study and management of chemical dependency, as well as licensed clinicians and round-the-clock nursing.

Treatment focuses on recovery strategies and the development of an individualized treatment plan. In addition, programming will prepare individuals to return to work through vocational and career counseling and motivational interviewing.
  • Adult Mental Health Partial Hospitalization/Intensive Outpatient Program
In an effort to enhance day programming mental health options for adults,  an Adult Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) was added for those struggling with mental health issues.  PHP and IOP are designed to be an alternative to or a follow up after inpatient treatment.

PHP also provides a higher level of care than traditional outpatient programs and consists of 6 hours of treatment Monday-Friday, including group, individual and family therapy.

IOP is more intense than traditional outpatient programs and includes 3 hours of programming each day. It can be used after inpatient treatment and offers group, individual and family therapy.

Treatment includes psychoeducational classes, meditation, and psychotherapy facilitated by licensed clinicians including a psychiatrist would rounds weekly.
  • Assessment & Referral Center
We have also added an Assessment and Referral Center (ARC).  Just like with any other illness, the first step toward feeling better is identifying the problem.

ARC is the starting point for all individuals seeking behavioral health services.  ARC offers individuals free behavioral health assessments and referrals to appropriate levels of care and behavioral health services.

Our behavioral health assessment is a free, confidential evaluation of symptoms so we can better understand an individual’s needs. The information we collect helps us create a customized treatment plan for the individual.  The assessment, conducted by a licensed clinician, typically takes one to three hours and is available seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.  The assessment includes:
    • A one-on-one meeting with a licensed counselor to discuss concerns; he or she will also gather a medical and psychiatric history, identification (driver’s license or state ID) and insurance information
    • A level of care and program recommendation

These programs added to the existing adult inpatient program and adolescent inpatient, PHP, and IOP services allow us to better service the mental health needs of Arlington Heights and the surrounding communities.
