The role of a Patient Care Technician (PCT) is vitally important to the overall patient experience at Edward-Elmhurst Health. Under the direction of a registered nurse, a PCT provides basic hygiene and comfort needs to patients while maintaining a safe environment in our hospitals. A PCT also serves as an emotional support system to the patient and their family members by listening to their concerns, explaining basic processes and procedures, and showing compassion.

Job requirements

  • Current CPR/BLS Certification for healthcare providers issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • One of the following: 
    • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate 
    • Completion of at least one clinical nursing rotation
    • At least six months of direct patient care experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including teamwork, ability to prioritize and follow through on directions

On-the-job training

  • In-depth orientation on patient care skills and tasks
  • Care Companion Course within six months of hire (for certain departments)
